With over 20 years of experience in the field, Chris is an expert on Section 106 and Federal, State, and Local regulatory criteria for compliance. His research has focused on 18th and 19th century rural communities, highlighting the development of New York City's outer boroughs and its surrounding area. His doctoral dissertation focused on farming in “rural” New York City, where he helped to discover one of the first examples of enslaved African-American material and religious culture in the archaeological record from within a domestic site within New York City. Dr. Ricciardi served as an archeologist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District from 2001 - 2009. As part of his work with the Corps he was on the African Burial Ground team responsible, in part, for the reburial of the enslaved African-American human remains. He has been President of the Professional Archaeologists of New York and the Metropolitan Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association and is committed to local historic preservation. In his free time, Chris loves to read, watch his beloved New York Mets, listen to music and hopes to travel way more than he does now…
